My Mom picked this image up for me years ago, when we were coming up with new ideas for craft items to make. My Mom was the best and I truthfully miss her and my Dad everyday! This image reminds me that family is everything! So hug yours! The image is free to use in your craft projects, providing you use it in a creative way. The image in this form remains property of Charmed Victorian. My new blog banner and button for now is an image from my Mom's sheet music. My Mom played the piano so eloquently.

Nayla's Ground Hog Day Prediction

Hello All,

Nayla told us last night, that in fact she did see her shadow, so 6 more weeks
of Winter. It is like Winter here today- depending on where you live a trace to 14"
and more. We live in central Colorado Springs, CO so we only had a few inches and it
was pretty much gone before I got home from work. But 5 miles North of us and down to Denver- a lot of snow! Since we are higher in elevation than Denver you actually should say driving down to Denver and not up. LOL! sounds funny as everyone says up to Denver. oh well! Have a great weekend!

Happy Tuesday to all, it is Monday in the Motorcycle Shop World. We work Tuesday-Saturday. I made my first collage sheet ATC size. Free for my blog friends. These are made from my personal images. I just got in some new ones yesterday, and I can't wait to see what I can come up with. You can make and sell what you create from the images, but not sell the images in the collage sheet format. I am thinking of printing some of these on fabric and seeing what else I can make.

Today would've been Daddy's 83rd Birthday!

Hello Friends,

     I wanted to say that today would've been my Daddy's 83rd Birthday. I have thought of him all day, cried some and laughed too. Last year I made him a collage of his WW11 Photos and Military Memorabilia. He loved it a lot! I gave it to my oldest brother Jay for a memory of him. This year I just finished the photos for his Military Flag case with a place for his medals. Once I have it all together I will post a photo. Here is the small collage I made for the frame.
    My (our) lives have changed so much in the last 6 weeks. I sure miss him and of course my Mom too!

     I hope everyone has a great weekend! I will get something up for a Valentine's Day giveaway as it has been awhile since I've had something up.

collage case for his retirement gift, Nayla's collage for her Titanic paper mache box and I made a photo collage for Daddy's flag case. Everything is at the printer so hope to finish up
most of the projects this week or next weekend. I also printed the collage of Jenny & Harvey for my Cousin Mary- Jenny was her Grandmother and the only photo she has is one of Jenny and my Great Grandmother late in life.

I found this photo yesterday of my Great Great Aunt Jennie Rice O'Ree This is a copy as I do not know where the original is- this is the only known photo of her at a young age. I was looking for something in my family tree files and found this treasure! They had a terrible life as their Mother remarried after she was widowed and had to give up her children. So I thought this collage , I could make Jennie happy as it gave her wings to fly away. Remember I am still in the baby stages learning photoshop so as always my creations are far from perfect!

City Chicken Recipe

Here is my City Chicken recipe- In the Binghamton, New York area of the Southern Tier of NY, the gateway to the finger lakes this is a common recipe, you can buy the meat cut up at the market and at some lunch restaurants you can buy it ready made. I use pork and beef, though the traditional recipe calls for veal and pork. I buy a nice lean sirlion beef and nice lean pork.
I usually buy 1 1/2 lbs of each meat- you can buy more or less. This amount feeds us for 3 meals and my inlaws for 1. You marintate the meat the day before you want to cook it.
City Chicken
1 1/2 pounds sirlion beef cut up into 1" cubes
1 1/2 pounds pork cut up into 1" cubes
You can cut the meat a little smaller if you desire. In separate bowls add salt, pepper, garlic salt and sweet basil. I mix the seasonings well and make sure all of the meat is covered, keeping pork and beef in their own bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. You will need small wooden skewers to place the meat on.
Alternate the meat placing 4 pieces on the skewers. Roll in egg and milk and shake in the extra crispy shake and bake. I use a fry daddy for the frying- sure beats the way my Mom had to do it in several frying pans. I fry until crispy. Place on paper towels to get the grease off and layer in a foil lined cake pan. Layer the city chicken on the foil until all is done, cover with foil and bake 350 until warmed all the way through. We used to take this on picnics and warm on the grill in the foil. It tastes yummy the next day or so if anything is left.

I hope this is the best year for us all! Health, Happiness, Peace on Earth, Prosperity and Success! Here is a photo of the clock I brought home from Daddy's. It was my Grandparents
and when it chimes it reminds me of them and now my parents too! The framed photo is my Grandmother Rena when she was young and the parchment above was made for my Great Grandmother Minnie. I have had the parchment for over 40 years. Before Bob encased it in the glass it was just in the frame- one day a breeze blew in and the parchment fell out with a piece of paper. On the paper was some family history that my Grandmother had placed behind the parchment. Interesting tidbit. Have a wonderful day! I am making City Chicken. If you are from the east mainly upstate NY and some of PA you know what it is- marinated pork and beef, placed on wooden skewers and fried and then baked.

My Daddy Willard Edwards Jr (Bill)

January 28, 1929 - December 13th, 2011

My Darling Daddy Paddy passed away this morning. I am so sad losing him, but I am so glad he is not suffering and in pain any more. My Mom and Dad are together again so that makes me feel better. I am going to NY on Thursday and I am so glad that Tara and I can fly together from DC. I will talk to you all when I get back. My Dad is having a full Military Funeral, just what he has always wanted. I am so Proud of him and my heart is breaking at my (our) loss. Thanks for all of your Prayers and please keep me and my family in them while we go through this time.

Here is a special steam engine train that came to town a historical steam engine- my brother is a big train buff and he was thrilled that I took photos- He told me the history of the train. Happy 125th Birthday to Lady Liberty!

Isn't it awesome that something so special to us in the USA is 125 years old today! I was thinking this morning of what the immigrants who came to our country in the 1800's thought of that special statue standing in the harbor, and what it may have meant to them. Freedom, Salvation, a whole new life? Today I was wondering what my Great Grandmother on my Moms side thought when she saw that beautiful symbol.
She came from Austria at the age of 15 and traveled alone- traveling by ship in those days and being so young besides, must have posed some terror and excitement at the same time! I also have ship records for cousins on my Grandmothers side who came at the age of 3 from England. If you get a username and password you can go to the Ellis Island Foundation and find records of your own ancestors. You can also log into ancestor.com and trace your family tree. My Mom went back 10 generations on my Dads side, a lot of interesting reading and I have all of that valuable information. I hope you all are having a great day!

A beautiful day for our Memorial Balloons and Laurie's Celebration of Life!

Hello Blog Friends,

We had a beautiful day for our Memorial Balloons for my Mom and Uncle Bert and we also Celebrated Laurie's Life today. We did the Balloons at Nancy Lewis Park here in Colorado Springs and then had a luncheon at my Mother and Father in laws. It was really nice and everyone loved the Memorial Card I made for Laurie- I used photo shop and the My Memories Suite software. I laminated them and think they turned out great. The balloons go up so fast I barely got these photos this year! Not a cloud in the sky! Hard to believe they are calling for snow on Wed.! We watched the balloons until we could not see them anymore!
Lavender for Mom and Laurie, Yellow for Uncle Bert. A monarch butterfly for Uncle Bert and the Purple Butterflies 1 for Mom and 1 for Laurie! A beautiful day for remembering those we love!

I am back from my trip- it did not go as planned Thanks to Tropical Storm Lee!

Hello All,

I am back from my trip to New York to see my Dad. First off his health wasn't the best so our planned trip to Shanksville was off. Then Tropical Storm Lee just had to go to the East Coast and make a huge disaster! We would not have been able to get there anyhow. I left on Sept. 8th and my flight was cancelled from Philadelphia to Binghamton. I got a flight for 9:30 that night to a different airport actually closer to my Dads home- then my brother had to figure out what back roads to take to Ithaca that were not flooded or had any bridges out. We got within 5 miles of the Ithaca airport and the pilot said that the visibility wasn't enough for them to land. So we circled over Binghamton where we were supposed to land for an hour, then they decided to go back to Philadelphia. It was after 1 am by then and I had been up since 3 am Colorado time on the 8th. I wasn't about to go to a hotel in the middle of the night so most of us stayed in the closed terminal, with just a few cleaning and maintenance people- I think I slept all of 1 hour. Of course my iphone charger was in my luggage and it was running low- I called expedia and got a flight for Friday the 9th at 9:30 am, they gave us tickets for Friday and my flight was for 9:30 pm, could not stay there that long!! Humidity is not my friend so I was hot and sweaty and just lovely by the time we got out on Friday am. I finally got to my Dads on late Friday afternoon without my luggage, as no matter what they tell you- your luggage goes to the final destination which was Binghamton, NY for me- all roads closed, state of emergency- got some clothes, an iphone charger and cosmetics a box of wine and then went to my Dads. Saturday I found out my luggage was in Binghamton as the airport reopened- but roads and bridges were still closed- I got my luggage delivered on Sunday by yellow cab. Yeah! We went down to our small town of Owego, NY and the devastation of the flood was so unreal it was hard to look. People were walking around like zombies throwing their life's belongings to the curb. I just cried looking at all of the mess. Our little town has about 1800 homes and they said over 3/4 of them had some kind of flood damage. Homes that have never flooded before got it this time- the underpass photo shows how high it was on Sunday the 11th. It was at the top the day before. The Susquehanna River crested in our town at a record 41' Before I left the roads had opened and power was back on in some of the areas and trucks were cleaning up as fast as possible. So many of my friends and old neighbors have lost everything. Daddy and I took clothes to the Church to help.
I did go the the farm down the road from my Dad and they had the pumpkin people pretty much set up. I love to go there- we went there all of our life to see the pumpkin village and also at Jackson's Farm, which I am sure was totally flooded. I am so happy my Dad is out of town and up! When I left my Dad was doing ok, not as well as I am hoping but little by little he will get stronger. We did go and meet with cousins on my Great Grandmother's side. We had a good time. I found some photos in Dads basement that I brought home of my Great, Great Grandparents and others and found a photo of one of my Great Grandmothers children- Lucy May I have her death cabinet card and now I have a photo, she died at just over a year old and is buried with my Great Grandmother. I will have some Vintage Photos and other items up soon, still catching up! My darling Grand Angels- Ayanna is now 14 and 5' 7" way taller than me! LOL! She is doing well with her volley ball and Nayla is now learning routines for being a Cheerleader, of course she is in her element! I saw these cute decorations today while we were out that I had to take a photo of. Candles or battery Fairy lights would look cute with these too!
Please send a prayer for my dear Sister in Law Laurie, she has been valiantly fighting cancer for many years now, she just turned 52. We got the news on Friday that she has only a few days to a few weeks. We went over on Saturday and spent some time with her. We cried, talked and laughed. It will be hard to let her go!

Colorado Labor Day Balloon Classic Photos from Home & the Park

What a beautiful morning! It was clear, cool and sunny and the Balloons got to take off this morning. Yesterday was cancelled due to wind- If we are lucky again tomorrow I will take some more photos, they do not usually come North, so it was special for us! I took some beautiful photos and will share some of them on the blog- Jinx did not like the balloons, the noise or having them in the sky! He has been slinking about all morning and looking out the back door before going out on the deck. I will be off the blog for 2 weeks- so be sure to keep adding comments to the Angels for Irene giveaway- I will check if I can from my brother's house. My Dad was in the hospital yet again and is going home today. The Shanksville trip is off due to his health. I hope we can go to the Memorial that our town will have for 9/11. For all of my blog friends that were in the Irene & Lee disaster I hope you are ok! My thoughts and prayers are out for you! Let us never forget 09/11! We must remain committed and vigilant to keep this great country safe! Have a safe and Happy Labor Day and a safe 2 weeks! See you after the 20th! The last balloon we saw looked like our late Parrot Toto! It made us feel good as when it first was coming towards the house the face was on the otherside and it turned around and there was the Toto face!

Here is a Vintage Photo I came across today. I worked on scanning photos of my Great Great Grandmother, my Great Grandmother and my Great Great Grandfather and the house my
Great Grandmother had in Hallstead PA. I am meeting up with some cousins that are from my Great Grandmother's Sister's side, in September while I am in New York. They did not have any photos of these relatives. My Mom had worked for years on the Family Tree she went back 10 generations on my Dad's side the Sacketts. I took the photos to documart for printing on a nice light cardstock.
As long as my Daddy feels as good as he is now, we are going to another cousins home in PA and going to Shanksville for the 10th Anniversary of Flight 93. As you all know being a Military Parent and my Patriotic upbringing, going there for the anniversary will be a very moving experience for me. I will post photos from my trip when I get back. As for now I will list my October giveaway. An Angel for Irene. My Mom's Birthday and Death was in Oct. so October is Angels month for me. I may add another Angel item before October. Renaissance Festival Today Hot but Fun!

We went to the 35th Annual Renaissance Festival today. It is very hot here! 93!
There was a little breeze so we did not just die from the heat, just almost! Here are a few photos, my husband Bob and photos from the Procession. It was Celtic Theme this weekend so a lot of bagpipes and I just love bagpipes! Wish we could've stayed longer but you can only stay outside in the sun for so long! Oh and the photo of our pond frog- he was peeking up early this morning so I took a quick photo!

Of course the Knights of the Realm are my favorites! Too hot to stay and watch the Jousting, but I have seen it for many years, so I was ok with missing it this time! There is just something about a guy on a horse in armor though! LOL!

It's been a busy Spring and almost summer- at work this is our busy time and I haven't been posting like I would like to. I have listed some photos for you and my giveaway- so please do look at those postings. We have had a lot of smoke haze here because of the fires in AZ. It's been so hazy you could not see the front range. Now we have more fires one that is in NM, closing I25 to go into Raton at the pass. One in Westcliffe and 2 still burning far south on Ft Carson's training areas. We have had really hot and dry weather and high winds. Even I have had some days with coughing and congestion. I can not imagine the people living in AZ. Let us hope and pray these wildfires get out and no more loss of animals lives and property losses! I hope to have some projects up soon in my Etsy store. I made these pots this afternoon for the girls at work and Bob's family. I made 7 for work and 3 for the family. The green ones are for everyone else the cream colored one is for me. I will put Pansies or Petunias in them to take to work on Saturday for the girls. Bob's Mom and Dad are having a combination Birthday and Mother's Day Barbecue on Sunday. My birthday is Friday and Matt, Bob's son has his on the 12th. The weather is finally to be back to nice! 75 for Friday! Hope you like my pots! It's almost my Birthday and Mother's Day. I miss my Mom every day of my life and Mother's Day and my Birthday are the hardest for me even at my age. 5 years she has been gone, seems like a lifetime! I still give cards and gifts to the special people in my life- Tara my daughter, is a great Mom and a Msgt in the USAF. She is my heroine as she works everyday to serve our Great Country and she does have sacrifices she has to make every day. She makes me so Proud! This photo is at the ceremony dinner party when she got her line number for her Msgt Promotion

Hi All,

Today my friend Janet in the photo (I have known her since I was 18) and I went to Canon City, Colorado, about 50 miles from here. We had Tea and lunch, at the Canon City Queen Anne. What a beautiful old Victorian! I also have a photo of Pikes Peak I took this morning after I got gas, we had some snow but only on the grass. The Apple Blossoms were beautiful too- The finger food was delicious too! Janet had a Jasmine Green Tea and I had a Chocolate Turtle Tea. What a fun day for us!

I made this photo collage from photos of my Dad during WW11.
My Grandma Ma is in the photo- I always remember her with
an apron on and she looked just like she did here to me, my whole life.
My Mom and Dad at 17, then a photo of them from the late 60's or very
early 70's. I put this collage in a shadowbox with the US Army tag, US buttons,
2 Vintage Military uniform buttons and Vintage Army Stripes. Waiting for UPS to
deliver to him today. It is a belated Birthday gift as my Dad was in the hospital on
and off since November. He is doing better! Hoping for the weather in NY to be finally
Spring.

My first Altered Spoon and Altered Bottle

It's Tuesday!
My work week starts- we did not get much snow- but it's slippery out.
I wanted to post these before I left for work. I made my first altered spoon and bottle yesterday. Have not tried glitter since I don't know when so I will do better next time- I will have to remember glitter is like the crushed almonds we put on the family toffee recipe- a light touch! Hope you like what I came up with.

Going to beat the snow today and run out and do my errands early. Go figure for my return to work tomorrow we may have 6" on the ground! But 65 for Friday so it will go away quickly! I hope! Here are a few Vintage Photos for you to download to your computer,

The first photo is of a woman who I haven't identified in my family tree files from my Mom I have seen her in a few but sadly do not know who she is- She is very pretty! The last photo is a relative Mary Snow- she was 18 when she wrote this photo post card to my Great Grandmother. Most all of the Vintage Photos I get are from the upstate NY area- where I am from- though I do find some here in Colorado Springs, sometimes!

Cemetery Angels by Linda

One day last fall I went to Evergreen Cemetery here in Colorado Springs in search of an Angel. The photos I am putting up are done by me- remember I am still learning photoshop- you may use these Angels for your art work- but please do not sell the images themselves. If you want to send me a photo of anything you make with my photos I would love to post them! I am having a wonderful Sunday- My Dad is home from the hospital and rehab, he is doing well- his kitties are so happy he is home as we all are too! Today is the start of NASCAR!! So I am watching Dale Jr to see how he does- Martina McBride sang the National Anthem, she is an awesome singer and it was beautiful! As an AF Parent and a Proud American I love the patriotic events at the races and they always have some of our wonderful soldiers there. The AF Thunderbirds flew over for the beginning of the race, it was awesome! I love seeing the Thunderbirds! They also had a tribute to Dale Earnhardt Sr, hard to believe it has been 10 years since he has departed this world, On Lap #3 it was very touching to see everyone hold their fingers up for the #3 and a moment of silence.
Well anyhow back to the race and cleaning!

I have a wonderful husband Bob, and our former stray cat Jinx who runs the household, he is the smartest cat I have ever had, more like a dog and follows Bob everywhere and hangs out in the garage shop and stays in the house the rest of the time.
